Notes for Moritz “Marcus“ ALEXANDER
Arthur J. Alexander [1] said that Max, Nathan and Julius are first cousins of Henry Alexander (1884 - ). This makes their father, Moritz “Marcus” ALEXANDER, the son of Berko Alexander and Chanah FREIMAN.

Not known to have come to the United States, so any records would be in Hungary.

On Max’s marriage application, his father’s first name given as Moritz
On Max Alexander's death certificate, his father's name listed as Maurice.
On Julius Alexander's death certificate, his father's name listed as Solomon.

Marcus, father of Max, Nathan and presumably Julius, is probably not the Marcus, the father of Fannie Alexander who was married to Nathan. (Family lore has it that Nathan and Fannie were cousins, so the two Marcus Alexanders would be related.)

1869 Hungarian Census lists a Moritz Alexander (b. 1842) married to Ant. Feigenbaum (b. 1845) living in Ofalu, Saros, Hungary. [1869 Hungarian Census in LDS collection and indexed on www.jewishgen.org] [357], [357] Their children are:
- Ign. b. 1863 (Could this be Nathan?)
- Miksa b. 1865 (Could this be Max?)
- Sim. b. 1867 (Stayed in Hungry and married Etel Judit Roth and had a daughter Anna.)
- Leopold b. 1869 (Could this be Julius? But this would refute his Dec 25 birth date.)

Birth records filed in Lemes, Hungary, suggest that Moritz and Antonia may have had the following children:
- Adelle ALEXANDER b. 8 Aug 1871 in Ofalu, Saros, Hungary [358]
- Berneth/Bernard Alexander b. 28 Dec 1881 in Ofalu, Saros, Hungary [359], [360]

Other possible children of Moritz and Antonia based on birth records from Lemes, Hungary:
- Natsi ALEXANDER b. 1864 in Pelken, Hungary. [361]
- Juda ALEXANDER b. 24 Dec 1869 in Ofalu, Saros, Hungary [362]
