His Hebrew name Aryeh
[826] might appear as Leib or Leiba in records from Russia or Poland.
One report says that Louis Sandusky arrived in US in 1860, but this seems too early based on birth dates and place of his children. Children born in Russia/Poland include Rachel who was born about 1861 and David born between 1867 and 1872. Isabella born in 1871 was the first child known to be born in Pittsburgh.
1870 Census has Louis and “Ennie” Sandusky living in New York with children Betsy, Rachel, Annie and David.
[1590] Except for the 7 year old Annie, the ages and other information seem to match Louis and Hannah. 1880 Census lists Louis and Hannah in Pittsburgh, PA.
1900 Census says Louis arrived in 1868. Naturalized in 1872 which would suggest he arrived in the US no later than 1867.
Date of birth uncertain:
- Headstone: died Nov. 8, 1904 at age 72 which suggests born c. 1832
[826]- 1870 Census lists him as 35 which suggests born c. 1835
- 1880 Census lists him as 41 which suggests born c. 1839;
- 1900 Census lists him as born born Oct. 1841.
Louis Sandusky's 1872 naturalization is available at:
